These patented and UL approved filters simply replace your existing grease filters. However, the Thermo Recovery Filter's vents are lined with teflon-coated copper tubing that runs water through the filters while the hood pulls very hot air through them. The water is sent to the the hot water heater at over 100F degrees rather than coming in cold from the outside.
